Do your shutters sag? Is your door a drag? Do you want a home on which you can brag? Enter the return of the front porch, one of America's hottest housing trends. Porches are one of the top remodeling projects today. In fact, Therma-Tru® Doors and NFO WorldGroup report that an updated entryway, which often anchors a porch remodeling project, can add up to 6 percent to the perceived value of the home.
Determine your porch style
The final element needed to power your porch – flowers. Consider growing a climbing vine along the porch rail or up columns for a charming look and fragrant breezes. Container gardens are ideal for potted trees such as ficus or hibiscus surrounded by ivy and petunias.

I'll agree that I have seen a lot more front porches in remodelling plans recently, though I'm not sure if the trend is a positive one for home owners. As I drive around neighborhoods I rarely see anyone actually using their front porch. Now I know that's not scientific proof, but it does occur to me that the large percentage of these front proch additions are for aesthetic purposes only. If so, they lend only a small amount of value to a home. A remodel with much better ROI is a backyard deck or patio, which generally return about 70% of money spent.
