TOM: Don’t let simple household hazards trip you up. Hi. I’m Tom Kraeutler.
LESLIE: And I’m Leslie Segrete with today’s Money Pit Home Improvement Minute.
TOM: Every year, millions of people are injured by falls at home that could’ve been easily prevented. The most vulnerable are children under five and older adults, but a few simple adjustments can keep everyone safe.
LESLIE: Make sure that all steps and stairs have secure bannisters or handrails from top to bottom. Keep all your floors clear and light the way with plenty of wattage in stairwells, landings, hallways, and porches.
TOM: Add nonslip mats or safety decals in tubs and showers and install sturdy grab-bars, as well. Keep floors clean and dry and make throw rugs trip-free with nonskid backs or liners.
