LESLIE: And I’m Leslie Segrete with today’s Money Pit Home Improvement Minute. Garages can be extremely vulnerable to break ins. Before you leave for vacation, it’s a good idea to unplug garage door openers to prevent thieves from using a scanning device to crack your code.
TOM: Installing a manual sliding bolt style lock on the inside of your garage door can also help secure the door from entry.
LESLIE: Also make sure the garage door panels aren’t damaged. Damaged panels can become a point of entry for a thief. If your door has windows, cover those as well to keep prying eyes away.
TOM: It’s also a good idea to make sure the door from your garage into your house is as secure as your front door including both a keyed and a dead bolt lock. I’m Tom Kraeutler.
