LESLIE: Next up, we’re going to take a call from Delores in Missouri who wants to paint some ceiling tiles.
Delores, what are you working on?
DELORES: I have sort of a sand-finished ceiling. I think they call it blown acoustical. And I’ve tried with a heavy roller brush and it just doesn’t cover and some of the stuff just flakes off.
LESLIE: Flakes off.
DELORES: Mm-hmm. I was wondering if there’s another method besides just having to have it sprayed on.
LESLIE: Well, they actually make a roller, a roller cover, a frame – actually, the cover that goes over the frame – to paint on this exact type of ceiling. And it’s like a yellow foam that has slices almost like – do you ever get a spiral-cut ham for Thanksgiving? It has that same type of spiral slicing all around the roller cover. So as you paint on the ceiling, those splicings open up to accommodate the dimensionality of your ceiling. So instead of pulling off all of that sort of popcorn texture, it actually goes around it and applies the paint to the texture without removing it. So it’s really a simple problem to solve. If you want to keep the texture there, this is the best way to paint and you’ll get good coverage right on it.
TOM: There you go. Problem solved. Delores, thanks so much for calling us at 888-MONEY-PIT, 888-666-3974.
