Best Strategies for Keeping Your Gutters Clean This Fall
TOM: Autumn leaves may make a mess on your lawn, but they can be an even bigger problem if they clog up your gutters. Hi, I’m Tom Kraeutler.

TOM: Clogged gutters lead to big problems like cracked foundations and leaking roofs. Prevent expensive repairs and keep rainwater flowing in the right direction by keeping your gutters clean.
LESLIE: Using a ladder, work gloves, and a hose, clear gutters by starting at one end and moving towards the other. When you get to the other end, spray the hose down the gutter spout to make sure it’s clear and then you can tend to any clogs that you find.
TOM: To protect your home, all downspouts should discharge four to six feet away from exterior walls. Then, grade the soil accordingly to help drainage along.
LESLIE: Gutter guards can help prevent clogs, but the best strategy is to keep up on your gutter-cleaning patrol throughout the season. I’m Leslie Segrete.
