LESLIE: Now we’re going to go to Virginia where Bob is looking to clean some mold off the side of the house.
Bob, where are finding this mold?
BOB: It’s on the north side where it never gets any sun.
TOM: Well, that’s pretty much expected, right? (chuckles)
BOB: I guess so, yeah.
TOM: Well, there’s a couple of things you might want to do, Bob. First of all, you need to clean it once and do a good job with that. The best way to do that, there’s a good product out there called Jomax – J-o-m-a-x. It’s a cleaning solution that will do a good job at removing that mold that’s attached to your house. You basically soak it on there and let it sit for a while and then you can clean it off with a pressure washer or with a hose after that.
The second thing you want to do is if you can possibly get some sun over there (Leslie chuckles) – even if it’s not a lot of sun – if you can thin out those trees, strategically get a little bit of daylight in there, the sun is the best way to stop this stuff from growing back.
BOB: It’s not really shaded all that much. It’s just the north side.
TOM: Right. Well, it’s typical on the north sides and on the east sides and if it’s – the more shaded it is, the worse it gets. But if you use a product like Jomax, you’ll be able to wash it off. OK?
LESLIE: You can even, Bob, you can try a bleach-and-water solution. You can try something about 20-percent bleach to 80-percent water and really sort of brush that on and give it a little scrub. Use some elbow grease and you’ll really find that that’s effective as well, but also make sure you rinse that.
TOM: OK. And Bob, if you use the bleach, just protect your plants because that could …
BOB: OK. Yeah, there’s a lot of those nearby.
TOM: Yeah. Well, just cover them with a dropcloth and then rinse them out, rinse them off really well when you’re done.
BOB: Alright, we’ll give her a whirl.
TOM: Alright, Bob. Get to it. Thanks for calling us at 1-888-MONEY-PIT, 888-666-3974.
