LESLIE: Edith in New Hampshire listens on WGIR. What can we do for you?
EDITH: Well, I’m – I have aluminum siding on my home that’s been on there for many, many years. And I have green – I suppose it’s mold, mildew or …
TOM: Moss.
EDITH: Well, it’s not really moss because it isn’t – it’s thin but it looks more like mildew. But it’s green. And I just wondered what can I do about it.
TOM: Make it go away.
EDITH: I would like to. (chuckling)
TOM: Alright. Well, here’s what you need to do. First of all, you need to clean it. And we would recommend a cleaner called Jomax – J-o-m-a-x – which is made by the Zinsser company and available …
EDITH: J-o-m-a-x?
LESLIE: Mm-hmm.
TOM: Yeah, J-o-m-a-x. It’s a really good house wash. A lot of my listeners over the years have had excellent success with that. And then once you get it off, then you want to try to prevent it from coming back. Generally, you get more of that moss and fungus on the cloudier sides of the house.
LESLIE: On the shady part.
TOM: The shadier sides of your house. So, anything you can do to expose those areas to a bit more sunlight by trimming back, selectively, some limbs on trees and things of this nature, is going to reduce the amount of that that grows on an ongoing basis. So, clean it and then try to get as much light on it as you can to prevent it from coming back.
Edith, thanks so much for calling us at 888-MONEY-PIT.
