I just bought a house on the Big Island of Hawaii at roughly 1300 ft elevation. Should I use a hardwood or engineered hardwood flooring?
Our Answer
Congratulations Aaron! Assuming hat this is a damp location, i think you’d be better off using engineered hardwood floor. Engineered hardwood is made of multiple layers that are glued together, and as a result, are dimensionally stable and far less likely to warp or twist. The grade of the floor is also key. Make sure you look for a floor with a finish that has a long warranty as it makes a difference, especially with all that Hawaiian sand you’ll be dragging in!
One other option might be bamboo flooring. It’s very green and also very strong and good for damp locations.
