TOM: Is your radiator as cold as the weather outside? An easy fix can warm things up once again. Hi, I’m Tom Kraeutler.

TOM: Steam and hot water radiators use hydronics to create cozy heat, but trapped air can keep hot water from moving to the chambers from a radiator and leave you out in the cold.
LESLIE: Bleeding out that trapped air should solve the problem. Just know that paint or rust can freeze up the radiator’s bleeder valve and using the soft metal radiator key may just lead to a break.
TOM: Instead, use a needle-nosed plier to gently work the valve back and forth until it opens. This will release the pent-up air so the radiator can refill with hot water once again.
LESLIE: If you find yourself going through this routine again and again, consider installing an expansion tank that separates water from air or add an air-eliminator. I’m Leslie Segrete.
