I recently insulated my garage, and was looking to heat it for two reasons. One to do a few projects and second to heat the rooms above. I found two heaters; a radiant heater and a blue flame heater. I do have access to a gas line so plan on hooking it up to that. What are some other good options for heating a garage. The garage doors are new. Walls are R30 and the ceiling is r35.
Our Answer
Heating a garage is a bit different than heating any other room in your house. First, garages are not built to be heated. You mentioned that your walls and ceiling are insulated, so that’s a big plus. However, most garage doors are not insulated, or not insulated well, So that’s an area you may want to focus on.
Heating your garage is not the best way to get heat to rooms above. Those should be heated individually. To size a garage heater to do both would be very wasteful. Finally there are many options when it comes to garage heaters. We’ve outlined many of the most popular garage heaters here so hopefully that will give you a good start.
