TOM: This summer, take the sting out of outdoor activities by knowing how to avoid bees and wasps. Hi. I’m Tom Kraeutler.

TOM: Bees and wasps are most active in the summer and they could be very dangerous when they’re disturbed. Their stings are not only painful but they can also cause serious allergic reactions for some.
LESLIE: Bees and wasps make their nests in trees, underground, in walls, attics, chimneys, and even structural voids in homes. So, pretty much, anywhere. They aggressively defend their homes and even send out chemical alerts to their buddies when threatened.
TOM: Bees are also strongly attracted to sweets and they become a nuisance around open garbage and food so it’s always a good idea to cover picnic items tightly and avoid storing trash near the picnic site.
LESLIE: Now, if you discover a bee or a wasp nest on your property, you want to contact a pest management pro because when there’s one, there’s many and pros will schedule a removal for dawn or dusk, when most insects are in the next. I’m Leslie Segrete.
