TOM: Wet weather might not be the only source of water damage to your home. It could also rain from the perfect storm of leaky pipes and faulty fixtures. Hi. I’m Tom Kraeutler.
LESLIE: And I’m Leslie Segrete with today’s Money Pit Home Improvement Minute.
TOM: Now’s the time to check your plumbing for problems that wreak havoc later. Look for signs of leaks in exposed pipes and anywhere they enter a wall or the foundation.
LESLIE: Dripping faucets with loose handles need new washers and low water pressure in faucets and showerheads is a sign that their aerators need to be cleaned.
TOM: Unclog slow sinks, showers, and tub drains and replace fixtures with cracks that drip. The runoff doesn’t just waste water. It also leads to rotting floors and walls.
LESLIE: Also, check dishwasher and washing machine hoses for proper connection and condition. Otherwise, you could find yourself with a new project in the middle of your winter chores. (chuckles) I’m Leslie Segrete.
