TOM: Holiday halting plumbing emergencies can be prevented with a few simple changes to your holiday routine. In the kitchen, avoid pouring fats and cooking oils down the drain, because they’ll only solidify into a stubborn clog.
LESLIE: Don’t load up the kitchen garbage disposer with stringy fibrous wastes like pumpkin pulp, poultry skins, and potato peels, and be sure to run cold water for 15 seconds before and after you operate the disposer.
TOM: If you’ve got a household full of guests, conserve hot water for morning showers by running appliances like dishwashers at night or at off times during the day.
LESLIE: You can also turn up your water heater to meet holiday house guest demand. Just make sure that the setting doesn’t exceed 125 degrees. I’m Leslie Segrete.
