Xeriscaping
TOM: Looking to update your landscape for beauty and water savings? Then consider a plan for new plantings using xeriscaping. Hi, I’m Tom Kraeutler.

TOM: Xeriscaping is a landscape design approach that makes the most of native plantings and well-conditioned soil for a great look that saves water. Start by sampling soil in existing garden beds to determine what amendments are needed and what drainage issues need to be corrected.
LESLIE: Then select plantings with low water needs and beautiful color. Your local nursery can help you choose plants that will work in sunny and shady spots around your yard. And can also suggest plant pairings with the same water and light needs.
TOM: Xeriscaping also involves creating more practical turf areas, decreasing coverage and making the lawn more of a design element than a groundcover.
LESLIE: Follow the principles of xeriscaping and you’ll have landscaping that delivers both water savings and beauty. I’m Leslie Segrete.
