How to Use a Pressure Washer
TOM: Planning to clean up the outside of your home this summer? Consider buying or even renting a pressure washer to speed the process. Hi, I’m Tom Kraeutler.
LESLIE: And I’m Leslie Segrete with today’s Money Pit home improvement minute.
TOM: Pressure washers are fast, effective cleaning tools that easily remove dirt and grime from a home’s exterior. They’re also great for cleaning cars, boats, patio furniture, decks, and even sidewalks.
LESLIE: The amount of water pressure you need really depends on the kind of job you’ll be doing. A basic light-duty pressure washer at 1,300 to 2,000 PSI is 30 times as powerful as a garden hose, but a great choice for cleaning boats, cars, and siding.
TOM: Medium-duty pressure washers at 2,000 to 2,600 PSI clean grease and grime. Heavy-duty washers offering 2,700 to 4,000 PSI are great for stripping surfaces for repainting.
LESLIE: Also, be sure to consider your pressure washer’s gallons per minute, or GPM number. The higher the GPM, the more surface area the pressure washer can clean.
