TOM: Winter’s cold means more time spent inside, and often in extremely dry conditions. Hi, I’m Tom Kraeutler.

LESLIE: And I’m Leslie Segrete with today’s Money Pit Home Improvement Minute.

TOM: Forced hot air heating systems have one big side effect:  Dry indoor air. Small portable humidifiers can help, but make sure it’s big enough for your space.

LESLIE: Portable models designed for 700 square feet are adequate for a bedroom or small room, but they won’t humidify the whole house. Plus, they have to be frequently refilled.

TOM: If you’re looking for a more comprehensive solution with less maintenance, consider a whole house humidifier. Whole house humidifiers install directly into your cooling and heating system, adding water vapor to air as it passes through your heating ducts.

LESLIE: Whole home humidifiers can even be set to consistently adjust your home’s humidity based on outdoor temperatures, a sure way to keep your home comfortable all winter long. I’m Leslie Segrete.

TOM: And I’m Tom Kraeutler. For more Money Pit home improvement tips, visit moneypit.com.
