LESLIE: Jerry, welcome to The Money Pit.
JERRY: Thank you.
LESLIE: So what’s going on? You’re putting in the new garage door.
JERRY: Yes, I have an older home. It’s got a garage door and it slides back and forth and I wanted to remove it and put a conventional roll-up door in it and I’m just wondering if it’s something that the average do-it-yourselfer can take on without too many problems.
TOM: Yeah you can. Do you have a standard height in that garage?
JERRY: I think it’s about 7’8″.
TOM: That sounds like about right. The only time it gets a little tricky is when you have a low garage ceiling because there are some special brackets and some special tricks of the trade that are kind of hard. But sure, you can put together your own garage door. You know, you’re going to need a good day to do it and a lot of patience because it’s like putting together one of those old-fashioned erector sets. There’s a lot of nuts, a lot of bolts, and a lot of parts of metal that all have to go together. But you certainly can do it yourself. It’s not terribly difficult if you’ve got some patience and some basic home improvement skills.
JERRY: OK, sounds great.
TOM: Alright, Jerry?
JERRY: Thank you very much.
TOM: You’re welcome. Thanks so much for calling us at 1-888-MONEY-PIT, 888-666-3974.
