Tom Kraeutler : This is The Money Pit’s Top Products Podcast reporting from the 2015 International Builder’s Show. One of the peskiest problems that home owners face is the issue of grout and keeping it clean. There’s a new product on the market from Custom Building Products called Fusion Pro that lays that all to rest. With us to talk about that is Eric Carr. Eric, tell me about Fusion Pro and how this grout differs from what we may be familiar with now.
Eric Carr : Tom, Fusion Pro is what we call a single component grout. What we mean by single component grout is that it doesn’t require any water to be mixed. It’s a ready to use product. What we try to do with this is tackle a few common products that installers have with grout. One is the mixing and the mess with mixing. Two is stain resistance because cement grouts often track stains if you don’t seal it. Three is color consistency, having the same color batch by batch, product by product. That’s the idea behind Fusion Pro grout.
Tom Kraeutler : Typically when we grouted a floor, we’d follow it up with the concept of grout sealer, usually a silicone-based clear sealer that has to be applied right after you grout, and it give you some stain resistance, but it eventually wears. Is this a product that’s going to wear? Does it have to be sealed?
Eric Carr : It does not have to be sealed, and to that point, you typically have to come back after the product has been cured. You have to wait an additional, typically 3 days to come back and seal the grout. With this, there’s no sealing required, and it lasts, and it’s durable. It’s more durable than just regular sealer on grout. In addition to that, the stain resistance. Our product is more stain resistant than cement grouts, than epoxy grouts, than urethane grouts. It’s the best stain resistance in the industry. Then again, the color consistency. From batch to batch, from lot to lot, you get the same color consistency as well.
Tom Kraeutler : Is this product available on the market now?
Eric Carr : Absolutely. Absolutely. A lot of distributors and at the Home Depot as well. So, tile and stone distributors and at the Home Depot.
Tom Kraeutler : Terrific. It’s called Fusion Pro, a single component grout. Eric Carr from Custom Building Products. Thank you so much for filling us in.
Eric Carr : Thank you.
