If you think your Money Pit needs work, imagine if this was your home! Even Buckingham Palace needs some maintenance.
Actually, I should say a lot. The Palace boasts 775 rooms, including 19 state rooms, 52 Royal and guest bedrooms, 188 staff bedrooms, 92 offices, and 78 bathrooms. Whew! Have you started to think about how long it would take you to clean the place.
Buckingham Palace has served as the official London residence of Britain’s sovereigns since 1837 and today is the administrative headquarters of the Monarch. My family and I spent a long weekend in London last week and upon our visit to Buckingham Palace, I of course noticed this gentleman doing repairs to the entrance gate of the Palace. I couldn’t get close enough o see exactly what he was working on but me being me it got me thinking about the work that is needed to maintain a building of that size and historical importance. Oh it started to make me dizzy or maybe it was the jet lag, who knows?
With this being the first weekend of fall I wanted to remind you to start your weather stripping projects now before it gets way too cold to even want to be outside. Remove and replace any worn out caulking around windows and doors. Seal any gaps or cracks you see in the siding of your home and around your foundation. On the interior of your home look at exterior walls and put foam backings on any outlet covers you might have, they are available at home centers and really make a big difference.
A weekend’s worth of puttering can create big savings on your heating bills this winter season so take the time and save some money. Now get to it. I bet you can be done with your money pit before this guy even finishes what ever projects he’s got on his majesty’s to do list!
