TOM: As your college student gets packed up for a new year, make sure there’s a handy toolkit in their cargo. Hi. I’m Tom Kraeutler.

TOM: When college is the destination, back-to-school shopping takes on a whole new dimension. Along with the linens, dorm décor, and study supplies, make sure your student has a trustworthy toolkit.
LESLIE: Start with basics, like a hammer, pliers, screwdrivers, adjustable wrench, and a socket ratchet set. That’s helpful to assemble that portable furniture. Also include a pack of nails and screws, a utility knife, tape measure, and the always-useful duct tape.
TOM: Next, add a flashlight, a collection of wall-hanging supplies, many of which today can help hang pictures, photos, and more without damaging walls. And toss in a superglue, wood glue, adhesive remover, and a Magic Eraser for wall marks.
LESLIE: Once you’ve got this toolkit assembled, do a little how-to review with your college-bound kids. You may get a few eye rolls but they’ll thank you from afar the first time they need to grab a tool or supply to tackle a project. I’m Leslie Segrete.
