TOM: Want to avoid thousands in home repair expenses? Just find and label your home’s main water valve. Hi, I’m Tom Kraeutler.

TOM: The main water valve controls the flow of all water into your home. Knowing where the valve is so you can shut it off quickly in an emergency is the key to preventing serious water damage.
LESLIE: The main water valve is usually located on the lowest level of your home, and near the street. You want to test the valve to make sure that it turns off easily. If it works, there shouldn’t be a drop of running water, even if a faucet is turned on.
TOM: Then label the valve with a large weatherproof tag so it can be quickly located and turned off if a major leak were to occur.
LESLIE: Tracking down your main water valve now could keep you from taking a real bath later. I’m Leslie Segrete.
