LESLIE: Now we’re going to take a call from Joan in Louisiana who has some unwanted visitors. Birds are building nests under her porch.
What’s going on?
JOAN: Well, it’s these little I call them poo-poo birds. (Leslie chuckles)
TOM: Poo-poo birds.
JOAN: Because they are really messy. We even painted the ceiling of the porch like a sky …
TOM: OK.
JOAN: … thinking maybe they wouldn’t come up under there. (Tom laughs)
LESLIE: But now they’re flying into it. (chuckles)
TOM: Yeah, exactly.
JOAN: (chuckling) What can we do? Because we’ve got wicker furniture and I mean it’s getting really nasty.
TOM: Now do you have ledges or areas where they’re nesting?
JOAN: Yes.
TOM: Alright. In those areas, you need to put some wire. What you can do is you can get some of this spiky wire that bends up and it’s kind of like a bed of nails. (Leslie chuckles) Basically it is and the birds won’t nest on it because they can’t quite get a foothold there. So you need to cover those areas and make it unpleasant for them to be able to land there and then they’ll stop trying to land there and stop dropping their poo-poo.
LESLIE: The poo-poo birds.
TOM: The poo-poo birds will stop pooping all over your wicker furniture.
LESLIE: Joan, if you’re from New York like I am, you see these sticky wires on everything from signs to you name it to keep the pigeons from building nests and it really does work.
TOM: Joan, there’s a website you can go to and pick up that wire that we’re talking about. It’s called BirdBGone.com.
LESLIE: And it’s just the letter B, not B-e.
TOM: Right.
LESLIE: BirdBGone …
TOM: Dot-com. And they have it all kinds of colors and sizes and shapes and it’s not very expensive. And you pick that up and install that and hopefully that will deter the poo-poo birds, as you’re calling them, from landing on your furniture. And you can go to your letter carrier convention and come back and sit right in that wicker chair and have no worries.
JOAN: Alright.
TOM: Thanks for calling 1-888-MONEY-PIT, 888-666-3974.
