LESLIE: Hi, Jackie. You’re listening to us on KNTR. How can we help?
JACKIE: I enjoy your show very much.
LESLIE: Thank you very much. What can we do for you?
JACKIE: My kitchen sink, on the right-hand side of the faucet, is a release valve connected to the dishwasher.
TOM: Yeah, that’s a vent for the dishwasher.
JACKIE: A vent.
TOM: OK.
JACKIE: That has an odor in it. How can I get rid of that odor?
TOM: Well, let’s see. It probably is …
LESLIE: It’s most likely a venting issue, don’t you think?
TOM: Well, actually, what I’m thinking is it’s the smell of decaying food inside that little vent liner …
LESLIE: Ooh, that’s possible.
TOM: … that could be doing it. Probably what you’re going to have to do is there’s a hose that goes from that vent over to the dishwasher that you might need to take off and rinse out really, really well and maybe run some bleach through it. And that’s probably why you’re getting that really stinky odor because it probably backed up once and left a lot of food in there, food particles, and now it’s rotting.
JACKIE: Oh.
TOM: OK? But it’s not – that’s not too hard to do.
JACKIE: Well, I will check that out.
TOM: OK, Jackie?
JACKIE: Thank you very much.
TOM: Alright, and hope that leaves you with a sweeter smell. (Leslie chuckles) Thanks so much for calling us at 1-888-MONEY-PIT.
