Getting Rid Of Spiders

  • Transcript

LESLIE: Alright. J.C. in Louisiana, what can we do for you today?

J.C.: Yes, ma’am. I’ve got a question about how to control some spiders I’m having [in my] (ph) workplace. And we’re right on the edge of a lake and the spiders are just terrible. We have to sweep up five or 10-gallon buckets full of spider webs every night.

    TOM: Oh, no.

    LESLIE: Whoa.

J.C.: They’ve taken the world over down there.

LESLIE: Well, you know what’s a good sort of natural home remedy to keep spider webs from forming is actually coconut oil. I know it sounds kind of weird. But if you can get coconut oil and dilute it a little bit with water and put it in a spray bottle and put it in the eaves and in the nooks and crannies all around the house, they can’t stick to it so they’re not going to make a web there.

TOM: And J.C., let me just suggest that, considering how many spiders that you guys have there, it might be good to have a professional come in because the pesticides that are worked – that are available today, are actually very, very effective because they’re designed specifically to treat only the insect that’s the pest and not all the other beneficial insects that might be around it. So, in this case, it might be a good idea to have a pro come in and spray it once. Because if they’re really getting out of control, it may not be something that you can handle with just some basic maintenance or perhaps using some of Mother Nature’s formulas like the coconut oil that Leslie suggested. I mean I’m sure it’s going to work, Leslie, but I think when they’re that thick (chuckling), that a pro may be the best option.
