In our ranch-style home, we have a great room with cathedral ceilings. Can they be fitted with crown molding?
Probably not. Crown molding is made to trim rooms with ceilings that meet walls at a 90-degree angle, and cathedral ceilings sit well outside of that span. You could apply a one-inch trim molding, but I actually recommend skipping ceiling-line trim altogether, since it tends to frame a room in and make it appear smaller.
Instead, reserve the decorative molding for the windows and doors in this room─that way, you'll add nice, personalized detailing without shrinking your great room's cathedral ceiling.
