Pantone Adds 210 New Hues to Fashion, Home + Interior Trends

Additional colors highlight the subtle variations present in color families.

Color plays an important role in the home, and paint manufacturers try to capture this each year with new palettes and recommendations to create serene environments. Pantone, the leading color company, is paying attention, too, and has come up with 210 new shades that homeowners may be interested in adding to their abodes.

The colors extend the variations of existing color families to make sure the hues achieved are just right.

“The colors that are influencing design today have evolved to reflect shifting societal views, new technological innovations and a truly global outlook,” Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, told Apparel. “With the ability to interpret the influence of color on overall consumer psychology, we have enhanced the utility of our PANTONE FASHION, HOME + INTERIORS Color System to enable the design community to stay on the cutting edge of color selection.”

Case in point: the orange family.

Color variations can be subtle, such as Dragon Fire (top left) and Exotic Orange (bottom right), or bold, like Aura Orange (top right) and Mango Mojito (bottom left).

“There’s a certain exoticness [with orange] and many other cultures are now embracing the shades of orange. More are appearing on the horizon and people are intrigued. We have dragon fire, exotic orange, aura orange and, what you could cook with, mango mohito,” Eiseman explained to Women’s Wear Daily.

Three different reds (Fiery Red, Tango Red and High Risk Red) each have a distinct look.

Similar variations can be found in the black family (with shades such as Onyx and Black Beauty), red range (with hues like Fiery Red, High Risk Red and Tango Red) and pinks (soft hues such as Love Potion juxtaposed with standout shades such as Pink Peacock).

The new colors bring the total number of available options to 2,310.
