Gray continues to be at the top of design trends, be it for cabinets, walls, fixtures — you name it. So it’s no surprise that it’s also been popular for floors. This trend will continue into 2015, with color selections varying from soft neutrals to bolder, more contemporary looks.
DuPont recently upgraded its newest Corian line to include low-gloss finishes that disguise scratches and scuffs. The same holds true for flooring. “Low-gloss hardwood floors transformed home fashion in Europe and have increasingly been in high demand in the United States,” the company noted in a news release, because of their resistance to scuffs, scratches and stains.
Although hardwoods are generally known for their traditional beauty, more exotic species, such as Brazilian walnut and bamboo, can offer a more distinctive look. Bamboo also has the added benefit of being an eco-friendly flooring product, thanks to the grass’s quick regenerative properties.
Similar to exotic species, certain selections also afford a great variation in coloring to create a bolder look for today’s floors. Lumber Liquidators points to its Dream Home Kensington Manor Fumed African Ironwood Laminate as a strong example of hardwood-styled flooring with “stark contrasts and dramatic graining.”
