TOM: While you’re spending all that time indoors this winter why not brighten up your life with better living area lighting? Hi, I’m Tom Kraeutler.

LESLIE: And I’m Leslie Segrete with today’s Money Pit Home Improvement Minute.

TOM: Don’t underestimate the power of interior lighting, especially during the season’s shorter days. In your living area, create a light scape that lights up tasks and highlights the room’s best features.

LESLIE: LED and compact fluorescent bulbs provide plenty of light for just pennies and come in different color temperatures to help set the mood. Choose daylight style bulbs for bright true-to-life light or go with soft white bulbs for a warmer ambiance.

TOM: Arrange fixtures near furnishings to provide plenty of light for reading and visiting, and use overhead lighting to fill in and enlarge the space.

LESLIE: You can also use dimmers to control lighting effects and occupancy sensors to help lower your energy use. I’m Leslie Segrete.
