TOM: Have you ever expected an invigorating shower and gotten a trickle of water instead? That’s caused by poor water pressure, and with a bit of hunting you might be able to find the source. Hi, I’m Tom Kraeutler.

LESLIE: And I’m Leslie Segrete with today’s Money Pit Home Improvement Minute.

TOM: If you have poor water pressure, the source could be a fixture like a showerhead or somewhere deeper in your home’s plumbing system. A fixture is easy to replace, but system-wide problems take careful diagnosis.

LESLIE: If your water pressure problem came on fast you could have a leak somewhere in your home. Be sure to check less obvious places like crawl spaces and basements.

TOM: Debris can also enter your home’s piping when a water main fractures out in the street. This can cause backups, and old steel or galvanized water piping also gets rusty inside and out which can lead to leaks.

LESLIE: Low water pressure can also be caused by the municipal water supply, so don’t be shy about asking your water company to check the pressure where the water enters your home at the curb. I’m Leslie Segrete.
