How to Refinish a Radiator
TOM: Cast-iron radiators heat with water or steam, and provide a level of comfort you just can’t get with forced hot air. But their monstrous size can sometimes overwhelm a room’s decor. Here is how to refinish a radiator. Hi, I’m Tom Kraeutler.
LESLIE: And I’m Leslie Segrete with today’s Money Pit home improvement minute. The best way to blend a cast-iron radiator into your decor is to refinish it.
TOM: You can do this yourself by using a wire brush to strip away any old, flaking paint or rust. Next, mask around the radiator, and then use spray paint designed for metal.
LESLIE: Apply the paint in short bursts, being careful not to let the paint run. Best results are achieved by applying multiple thin coats of the paint instead of trying to cover everything in a single application.
TOM: Want another option? Radiators can also be hidden with especially designed cover that’s vented to let heat escape. That’s how to refinish a radiator. I’m Tom Kraeutler.
