TOM: There’s nothing like grilling for a great summer meal, and when you grill with green fuel you’ll enjoy healthier, tastier results. Hi, I’m Tom Kraeutler.

LESLIE: And I’m Leslie Segrete with today’s Money Pit Home Improvement Minute.

TOM: For all the flavor it adds, traditional grilling can lead to health concerns. When you use charcoal, the food soaks up chemicals like coal dust, limestone, borax, starch, and sodium nitrate. And the emissions released by charcoal aren’t great for the environment either.

LESLIE: Instead, try ecofriendly efficient charcoal made from natural recycled ingredients like coconut shells. The manufacturing process won’t impact forests and you’ll avoid exposing yourself and your barbecue guests to harmful carcinogens.

TOM: For another green option, give forest-friendly grilling planks a try. Made from sustainably harvested wood, they help prevent meat from overcooking and lend a lot of flavor, too.

LESLIE: Going green for your remaining summer barbecues can make a world of difference and the results will be delicious. I’m Leslie Segrete.
