How to Repair a Metal Roof
LESLIE: Now that winter is beyond us, we are starting to look to how we can repair things and get things ready for the next season coming up on us. Evalyn in Union, Missouri has some questions about her roof.
How are ya?
EVALYN: Oh, I am just fine.
LESLIE: How’s the roof?
EVALYN: I’m wondering what can be used or what can be done to repair the aluminum sheets.
LESLIE: Is it a shingled roof? Can you describe the roof a little bit?
EVALYN: It’s a metal roof.
TOM: Alright. Well, you’re doing the right thing. The care and feeding of the metal roof involves staying on top of the rust and keeping it well painted. If you do that, metal roofs can last over 100 years.
EVALYN: This has been here almost 100 years.
TOM: My advice would be to simply have those seams repaired. They’re usually crimped together or they could be riveted together so that you don’t have a sheet that the air can kind of get under, the wind can get under and pick it up. It is smart to stay on top of that and, Evalyn, it sounds like you did a fabulous job getting it to this point in age. I think it’s well worth you going ahead and getting this properly repaired so that it can last you another hundred years. (Evalyn chuckles)
Evalyn, thanks so much for stopping by The Money Pit.
EVALYN: Thank you.
TOM: You are very welcome.
