LED Bulbs Last Long and Save Energy
LED bulbs offer great energy savings because they use up to 85% less energy than incandescent bulbs. They also last much longer. LED bulbs don’t contain mercury and don’t put off UV rays, so you won’t have to worry about fading furniture or floors. The Philips 12.5-Watt Ambient LED A19 light bulb is an excellent replacement for the 60W bulb you might be using in your table lamp or ceiling fan. It provides soft white light when lit – just like an incandescent bulb. It saves $130 in energy costs over a regular bulb and it lasts more than TWENTY years! The Philips 12.5 watt Ambient LED A19 is fully dimmable, making it ideal for pendant and ceiling fixtures. It’s got a very rugged design – no fragile filament or glass that could easily break AND it’s Energy Star certified. Visit your local Home Depot today to check out the Philips A19.
Dim the Lights
Dimmers are a great option for saving energy. The founder of Lutron Electronics invented the dimmer in 1961 and the company has been leading the way ever since. Lutron's new CFL Dimmer for dimmable CFL and LED bulbs have trademarked technology to work with energy efficient light sources. These dimmers can also be used for halogen and incandescent bulbs. You may get a flicker with traditional dimmers when using CFLs and LEDs, but not with the Lutron C-L dimmer. A new design called the Skylark Contour, available at The Home Depot, features a rocker switch that turns the lights on and off, and an easy-to-use slide control that adjusts the light for any activity.

Compostible Bags Break Down for Less Waste
Many communities have banned the use of PE plastic bags for yard waste removal, because polyethylene-based plastic bags can not be composted with the yard waste or burned. Until now the alternative has been paper bags. Studies show paper bags are difficult for consumers to use and store, have a limited fill capacity (usually 28 gallons), and do not hold up well in wet weather. With BioBag, you eliminate all of those issues. They are certified compostible. Lawn & Leaf bags are a full 33 gallon capacity and strong enough to hold the tough stuff. BioBag also makes biodegrable pet waste bags and kitchen compost bags. Visit www.biobagusa.com for more info.
Cork Floors are Quiet, Clean and Easy to Maintain
When it comes to flooring there are a couple of very good "green" options. Bamboo is gaining popularity because it's a renewable resource. Natural cork is also very good because it's sustainable, it's very attractive, it last long, it's quiet, and it's a great floor for allergy sufferers. Cork tiles are antistatic, which means easy maintenance. The cushioning effect of cork eases your steps, while its insulating quality helps cut down heating costs. Visit www.lumberliquidators.com for more information on green flooring choices.
