LESLIE: Doug in North Carolina is working on a gutter project. How can we help you?
DOUG: Yeah, what I’m concerned about is gutter protection.
DOUG: Down in North Carolina, I’ve got quite a bit of pine needles and pine leaves, as you might well imagine and gutters get clogged up rather quickly.
TOM: (overlapping voices) Yeah, I bet.
DOUG: I’ve been looking at a couple of different sources for gutter covers and I’m not sure that I’m looking at any of them that are any good, so I needed your recommendations.
TOM: OK. Well, I mean there’s certainly quite a selection out there. What I’ve had good luck with is the gutter covers that go across the top of your gutter and they work on the principle of liquid adhesion. Basically, as water runs down the roof, it adheres to the gutter and falls through slots in the gutter but it pushes the leaves off. It sort of has like a louvered design to it so that the leaves wash off and the twigs wash off but the …
LESLIE: Mm-hmm, but the water goes into the gutter.
TOM: Right. The surface adhesion of the water holds it in and falls into the gutter. And I’ve actually put one of those up on the side of my house that has a big, big maple tree that drops a lot of leaves and it’s really stood up quite well.
DOUG: Leaves I can put up with but it’s the pine needles that are sort of an annoyance.
TOM: (overlapping voices) Yeah, it’s everything else. Yeah. Well, I actually wrote – there’s actually an article on our website that details every type of gutter cover with some recommendations for each. So why don’t you head on over to MoneyPit.com and search “Gutter Guards Worth the Cost”? And it outlines the six or eight different types of gutter guards there and gives you some suggestions on what might work for specific situations.
DOUG: OK. So you’re suggesting I do a little homework.
TOM: Yeah, on our site. “Gutter Guards Worth the Cost”; that’s the headline of the article.
TOM: Just search that on MoneyPit.com and you’ll find it. Or just Google “MoneyPit.com Gutter Guards Worth the Cost” and you’ll find it.
DOUG: Let me give it a go and see what happens.
TOM: Alright, great. Thanks so much for calling us at 1-888-MONEY-PIT.
