TOM: As heating season swings into full gear, now is a perfect time to make sure carbon monoxide detectors are in place to keep your home safe. Hi. I’m Tom Kraeutler.

LESLIE: And I’m Leslie Segrete with today’s Money Pit Home Improvement Minute.

TOM: Carbon monoxide is an odorless, colorless gas that results from incomplete combustion in heat sources and it can be lethal to your family. Prevent the risk of exposure to this silent killer by equipping your home with carbon monoxide detectors.

LESLIE: Now, most states require residential installation of carbon monoxide detectors and they should be stationed in every zone of your home reached by a heat source.

TOM: You could choose from a range of sizes and styles, including units that combine smoke and carbon monoxide detection.

LESLIE: Check and test your detectors twice annually and if they go off, heed the warning by evacuating your home and calling 911. I’m Leslie Segrete.
