TOM: This Halloween, don’t let accidents cast a dark spell over trick-or-treating fun. With a few steps, you can make sure your home is safe for the spooks to come. Hi, I’m Tom Kraeutler.

LESLIE: And I’m Leslie Segrete with today’s Money Pit Home Improvement Minute.

TOM: In the days leading up to Halloween, check that pathways and lighting fixtures are in good shape. Keep an eye out for loose bricks, pavers, or uneven walkways that could trip up kids and adults in costumes.

LESLIE: Decorations are fun, but not if they pose risks to safety. Keep railings and staircases free of décor that could cause falls.

TOM: And even if your pooch usually likes strangers, he might not like the strangers in masks. Keep pets safely quartered indoors and away from trick-or-treaters at your door.

LESLIE: And if you won’t be home when the costume kids come a-knocking, leaving lights in the house off usually keeps those candy seekers from trekking to your door in vain. I’m Leslie Segrete.
