Summary: Tips and advice on fiberglass doors that can look like exterior oak by home improvement expert Tom Kraeutler, host of The Money Pit.
TOM: Hey, it’s Tom Kraeutler from The Money Pit. One of the most common questions I get is, “What are you working on in your own house?” This year, it’s going to be to replace our exterior doors. We’ve got an 1886 farm house, so we want a door that’s going to look really great with that particular period. That’s why we chose Therma-Tru Doors.
Therma-Tru’s are fiberglass doors. They are fiberglass entry doors, which means they’re much more energy efficient than a wood door. This is Therma-Tru's Fiber-Classic® Oak Collection. This door looks just like a real wood door, but it’s actually four times more energy efficient. It’s not going to dent, it’s not going to warp, it’s not going to rust, and it looks great too.
The other thing that’s very special about this particular collection from Therma-Tru is it’s available with a new innovation called a Vented Sidelite. Let me show you how that works.
Typically your Sidelites are solid, but this one is like a mini-door. It’s on a hinge so you can open and close it. That means that you’re not going to need to hide the beautiful entry door with an ugly screen door; you use the Vented Sidelites. It’s got its own built in screen that comes with it -- you can leave these open. You can enjoy some fresh breezes through the house in the spring, in the summer, whenever it’s a nice day out, and again, you don’t have to cover the door. You can look at this beautiful door.
You’ve got this Maple Park glass that it comes with, there’s lots of different styles that you can choose from. It’s all insulated, it’s all energy efficient, and it really stands up. It’s also available in their Smooth-Star® line, and also there is a patio line that’s also available with the Vented Sidelites.
If you like this, you think it might look good in your house, check it out at their website, it’s thermatru.com. You can actually sort of build your own door there and then see what it’s going to look like on your house.
