Ice Dam Dangers and Prevention

How to prevent leakage and other problems caused by ice dams

Rooftop ice can look beautiful, but these ice dams have the potential to cause expensive damage. Heavy snowfalls followed by warm days often allow ice to dam up at the roof's edges, where it blocks melting snow and causes serious leaks inside your home. To prevent this, be sure your roof is adequately ventilated. If you plan to replace your roof soon, be sure to have the contractor install an ice and water shield, which will give you an extra layer of protection against rooftop ice dams.
