How to Keep Your Home's Surfaces Clean

Busting the Dust

Does dust collect on your home’s surfaces faster than you can keep up with it?  Dust can come from several sources and is hard to get rid of completely.  But increased dust could be a sign that it is time to change a dirty furnace or air conditioner filter or vacuum cleaner bag.  Dust can also be introduced into your home through air leaks in ducts, or air infiltration through leaky doors and windows.  To cut down on dust, make sure you change or clean your furnace and air conditioner filters once a month.  Consider leaving your shoes at the door so you don’t track outside debris in – which can be the biggest source of dust into your house.  Also sealing air leaks can help reduce air infiltration that could be a source of dust.   For more info about preventing and locating the sources of dust in your home, visit www.EPA.gov.
