My basement has some mold, the cider block walls have some lime deposits and sometimes water come into the garage. I call a contractor and they want to put in a sump pump by jackhammering the floor down to the footer. I had agreed to have this waterproofing because it seemed logical. However, something did not sit well with me, and I did not feel totally confident with the whole process. The contractors schedule the work to be done on Wednesday and Thursday, but had to delay the work for the next day. Well, that's when i came across your Waterproofing Tips. It gave me a new outlook and i feel some much better because i cancelled the project. i instead had a French Drain installed in the areas where most of the water pools. My next set will be to clean the gutters, build up the soil around the house, (fill dirt ,topsoil ,grass seed). Can you please let me know if i am on the right track? Should i have put the French Drain in? What type of topsoil do i need to use? Last question is, it's raining now as i am typing this and i see some standing water around the French Drain. There is no grass where there is standing water is this causing the extra water or is the French Drain not doing it's job???
