How Do You Repair a Lamp with a Reading Lamp That Uses Mini-flourescent Bulb?

The bulb itself has three tubes and has four pins that go into  into a holder.  The lamp used to have a different bulb that is no longer made and the company that sold the lamp is no longer in business .  I ended up buying a new bulb and base.

What I cannot do is connect this base to the two thin wires leading out of the lamp. I think they go into two holes in the base, but when I put them in there, they come out. There is no way for me to connect them to anything.  The base is a solid piece of plastic. I tore apart the old base and see there the wires went into some kind of clip.

Does anyone know how to make the correct connection that will stay after I put everything back together?

I've since found what I believe is the answer. Two wires that have to connect to the base seem to have to go into a tiny opening in the base and through the plastic where it comes in contact with a metel clip. Right now I am trying to figure out how to get the wire into that hole and into the clip.

The wire is stranded wire and those strands are all unwound. Somehow I have to get the strands of this thin wire to stay together and go into the base so that the metel clip will hold them.

I don't yet know how to do that.
