Hardwood Floors In Old Homes: Structural integrity is built right in

We are considering the purchase of an older home with a single layer of oak flooring as the floor. The floors appear to be in good shape, and just needing refinishing for cosmetic issues. The joist spacing is 16 inches on center. Would you have any reservations about this floor system given the size and weight of today's furniture?
