Our carport is built into the house, under the same roof as the rest of the structure. Would we increase the value of our home if we closed it in to create a finished garage?

Yes, you would, but only if the carport conversion is approached in the same way as standard garage construction would be. You’ll need a foundation as well as proper drainage and waterproofing, and fireproofing in the wall adjoining your home. This improvement will also need to meet building codes and standards as set by your local planning department, so don’t attempt to skip the permit process. Otherwise, you’ll not only be tempting trouble for your investment but also inviting the possibility of your carport conversion detracting from the value of your home.
