Synthetic Shake Shingles Come of Age

Shake It Up

Many homes look great with natural shake shingles. But that great look often fades to bland gray after only a few years – and comes with maintenance headaches, a high risk of fire and a higher price for insurance. DaVinci Roofscapes offers a beautiful alternative with its synthetic shake shingle line, including the new Mountain and Tahoe Blends introduced at the International Builders’ Show this year. The new blends join DaVinci’s Autumn and Weathered Gray blends to form an extensive spectrum of realistic-looking shingles.

Most synthetic shake shingles are only a single color, resulting in a roof with a “fake” look. DaVinci blends have subtle shades, artistically coordinated at the factory to create an appearance similar to real variations found in nature. The result is a distinctive, one-of-a-kind roof that even the most experienced designer will have to squint to see that it’s not real rough-hewn cedar.

Synthetic shake also offers durability, safety and substantial cost benefits – half as much as natural cedar over its lifespan. They’re nearly maintenance free, fade resistant and don’t curl or crack. There’s no treating required and no termites, silverfish or mold to eradicate. They won’t absorb water, so there are no freeze or thaw issues. Their Class A fire rating and Class 4 impact rating are the highest possible, and they are certified to withstand winds up to 110 mph. They can even save you money on insurance premiums. DaVinci offers a 50-year warranty.

With the world’s resources becoming scarcer and landfills overflowing with used asphalt shingles, it’s good to know that no trees will be sacrificed to create a shake roof that’s going to last a very long time. Only the roofer and the homeowner need know that it is not the real thing.
