Sensational Color, DaVinci Roofscapes and seven popular paint companies explore the best fifty shades of gray for roofs and home exteriors.
Gray is a color with infinite variations and versatility, ranging from the slightest, gentlest smoky hues to the richest, darkest shades. The undertones of gray can be cool, warm or a flexible, neutral place in between.
“The best gray for your home exterior is the one that blends well with fixed features.”
Sensational Color’s Fifty Shades of Gray infographic explores the huge range of possibilities that gray can offer to home exteriors. To showcase the color’s broad spectrum, it selects Pittsburgh Paints’ frosty Aria and Thin Ice as well as Pratt & Lambert’s dark, cool Lava and near-black Graphite, and it samples Sherwin-William’s warm Agreeable Gray and Mega Greige beside Valspar’s Polished Silver and lavender-tinted Voyage.
“The best gray for your home exterior is the one that blends well with your roof and the other fixed features, such as your brick, stone or permanent design elements,” the infographic explains.
Sensational Color also matches gray roofing styles with complementary gray paint swatches to provide examples of strong combinations. It suggests accenting gray with dramatic splashes of blue; deep greens and reds; and metallic touches of gold, bronze or copper.
“It’s hard to go wrong with gray.”
“Refined and elegant gray is not only accepted in today’s society, but an extremely popular choice. From embracing natural graying hair to topping off the house with a gray slate roof, it’s hard to go wrong with gray,” writes Kate Smith, chief color maven for Sensational Color.
Industry Edge has already pegged gray as a top roofing color trend for 2015 but also noted that gray is equally popular for interiors, especially kitchens and bathrooms, thanks to its timeless style and neutral – but hardly boring – appeal. A balance between bright and deep gem-tone colors and natural, neutral shades of gray has also emerged as a major color trend of 2015, so retailers won’t go wrong stocking fifty or one hundred and fifty shades of gray.
